Recognizing the unlimited availability for witnessing that one has on a bicycle, God led Judy to step out as a full-time faith missionary here in the United States, and developed WHEEL POWER Christian Cyclists. Headquartered in Lynchburg, Virginia, the goal and prayer of this ministry is to use the sport of cycling to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ, reaching as many people as possible, and to encourage and train Christians to boldly share their faith.
Throughout her life, Judy has reached many personal achievements including setting a World Record for stationary cycling. The Lord allowed that to happen in April, 1991. Judy rode 3,000 miles on a Lifecycle stationary bike at Courtside Athletic Club in Lynchburg, Virginia. She accomplished this feat by pedaling 22 hours a day and finishing in just 7 days, 8 1/2 hours. Holding the World Record has given Judy many opportunities to witness and share her faith in Jesus Christ, especially in the secular arena. It is Judy's desire to live by God's Word and proclaim Romans 8:28. "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose." Romans 1:16 is also one of her favorite verses, "I am not ashamed of the Gospel, for it s the power of salvation to all who believe."
A very successful sports career came early for Judy, starting at age five, playing and competing in tennis, volleyball, cycling, swimming, and basketball. She lettered in several sports throughout high school and at California Baptist University. Judy was also drafted by the San Francisco Pioneers, a professional women's basketball team after college in 1979. Although sports were a major part of her life and brought her great joy and sense of accomplishment, she always felt like she was missing something. Several years after a divorce, as she was seeking to know the truth about life and death, she heard the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. As a 28 year old college junior, Judy came to know Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior in February 1978.
Judy had been raised in a Catholic home, the middle of seven children. Her Mother was a nun before leaving the Convent, meeting her Dad, and getting married. As a single parent raising her son, Steve of only three years old, Judy finished her education and the Lord provided ministry opportunities as a Christian high school teacher, coach, and later as a college administrator at Liberty University. It was after a lay-off from Liberty University that she asked the Lord, "What now?" instead of "Why?" And it was after much prayer and fasting that the Lord gave Judy the vision to start WHEEL POWER Christian Cyclists.
Knowing that life is short and it is only what we do for Christ that will last, Judy continues to lead bicycle and recently motorcycle mission trips throughout the United States. She personally has bicycled across the United States fourteen times with her first trip being in 1991. Judy has also covered more than 20,000 miles on her Honda Goldwing trike and she rides just to meet people and tell them about Jesus. Judy's testimony is a remarkable story of God's love and direction in one person's life. While Judy stays active in her local church and in the Lynchburg community, she spends most of her time organizing and leading mission trips throughout the United States and speaking and teaching Christians how to talk to Anyone, Anytime, Anyplace about Jesus.
Recently the Lord opened the door for Judy to share salvation stories on the radio in several Countries in Africa and now in the USA. Thousands of people have come to know the Lord Jesus in a real and personal way after hearing these stories and the Word of the God.
It is Judy's heart's desire to see people come to know the Lord as their personal Savior. She believes the Bible teaches us as Christians to have compassion for the lost and share God's love with everyone we meet. Judy also sees it as our responsibility to be faithful and obedient to God's Word as we have been commanded in John 15:16, Matt. 28:19-20, Mark 16:15 and other Scriptures throughout the Bible. Judy is a vivacious, energetic, and motivational woman who generates enthusiasm and excitement wherever she goes. 1Peter 3:15 reminds us to "set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have."
